On Finiteness Conjectures for Endomorphism Algebras of Abelian Surfaces
It is conjectured that there exist only finitely many isomorphism classes of endomorphism algebras of abelian varieties of bounded dimension over a number field of bounded degree. We explore this conjecture when restricted to quaternion endomorphism algebras of abelian surfaces of GL2type over Q by giving a moduli interpretation which translates the question into the diophantine arithmetic of S...
متن کاملEndomorphism fields of abelian varieties
We give a sharp divisibility bound, in terms of g, for the degree of the field extension required to realize the endomorphisms of an abelian variety of dimension g over an arbitrary number field; this refines a result of Silverberg. This follows from a stronger result giving the same bound for the order of the component group of the Sato–Tate group of the abelian variety, which had been proved ...
متن کاملModuli of CM abelian varieties
We discuss CM abelian varieties in characteristic zero, and in positive characteristic. An abelian variety over a finite field is a CM abelian variety, as Tate proved. Can it be CM-lifted to characteristic zero? Does there exist an abelian variety of dimension g > 3 not isogenous with the Jacobian of an algebraic curve? Can we construct algebraic curves, say over C, where the Jacobian is a
متن کاملAbelian Extensions of Algebras in Congruence-modular Varieties
We define abelian extensions of algebras in congruence-modular varieties. The theory is sufficiently general that it includes, in a natural way, extensions of R-modules for a ring R. We also define a cohomology theory, which we call clone cohomology, such that the cohomology group in dimension one is the group of equivalence classes of extensions.
متن کاملFiniteness Properties of Locally Finite Abelian Varieties
We show that any locally finite abelian variety is generated by a finite algebra. We solve a problem posed by D. Hobby and R. McKenzie by exhibiting a nonfinitely based finite abelian algebra.
